Revamped Siri will reportedly offer auto-deleting chats

Apple is leaning hard into privacy as its main AI differentiator, and the next version of Siri shows exactly how. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the more conversational Siri coming in iOS 27 will include auto-delete options for chat histories.

You'll be able to choose between 30 days, one year, or keeping conversations forever. That's a notable contrast to other AI assistants, which typically only offer temporary incognito modes if they offer any privacy controls at all.

Apple seems to be making a calculated bet here. They're wagering that users will accept some trade-offs in convenience if it means better privacy protections, especially as concerns about AI data collection continue to grow.

For anyone using AI tools at work, this matters. Chat histories with AI assistants can contain sensitive business information, strategic discussions, or proprietary ideas. Having granular control over how long that data sticks around is more than a nice-to-have.

The timing is interesting too. Apple has been playing catch-up in the AI race, and they're clearly trying to turn their weakness into a strength by positioning privacy as the feature competitors can't match.
